Welcome to Reception Class

Class Teacher: Mrs J Youd

We have an exciting term planned for you beginning with an opportunity to visit the Doctors surgery role play. In this role play you will have the opportunity to take on roles of doctor, nurse and patient. You will learn to count out pills, write prescriptions, check a patient’s eye sight and measure the length of different bones.

The first book we will be reading is an all time favourite – Handa’s Surprise! This is the story about a girl called Handa who decides to surprise her friend Akeyo when she takes her a basket of fruit. At the end of the story, we learn that Handa is even more surprised than Akeyo!! You will also learn that it is very important to eat a variety of fruit and vegetables to prevent you from having to visit the real doctor!

The whole school learning journey this term is to develop your skills in collage, in order to make a mosaic for the outside of the school. You will be learning about how different shapes fit together and how to use colour to make new colours, alongside developing your skills in cutting, tearing and sticking.

This half term you will be continuing on your journey to become independent learners. You will have opportunities to talk about your learning with your friends and adults. You will also be encouraged to say why you like and even dislike, some of your learning and some of you will begin to recognise how you can become even better learners.

You will continue to learn new letters to match sounds and there will be plenty of opportunities for you to try out your writing skills in the classroom.

Please remember that we have an ‘open door’ policy and are always available to speak with you first thing in the morning and at the end of the day.

Mrs Youd.
