This term, the children in the Reception class have been celebrating the Chinese New Year.
We are very lucky to have Jacob in the class who taught us how to say ‘Happy New Year’ in Chinese. Each child wished him a Happy New Year when we took the register on Monday morning.
The children learnt why a different animal is represented each year on the Chinese Zodiac. They then took part in many different learning opportunities that enabled them to learn about some Chinese traditions. Some of the children chose to explore ‘brush painting’ by making New Year cards. Others have made fans and lanterns. However one of the favourite learning opportunities was the tasting of Chinese food…..with chopsticks!
At the end of our week of celebrations each child received a red envelope with a gold coin inside….a tradition that symbolises ‘Good Luck’.
