As a grand finale to their fundraising events for the Tall Ships experience, Year Six hosted a Wipeout event on the school field this weekend, led by parents, Kate Haskell and Hayley Jeffrey.
Wipeout took some of us back to the days of It’s A Knockout back in the seventies, with an assault course through a bouncy castle, over hay bales, under netting, through a water trough and in and out of sumo wrestling suits on the way. Teams of five took part competing against each other and against the clock for the highly sought after accolade of Wipeout Champions of the year!
A total of 22 teams took part ranging to from 4 years to 40 plus! Everyone completed the course in record time despite missiles of water, jelly & custard being fired with great glee by Year 6 pupils. The excitement reached its peak as the top two teams completed in a final round with the '5 Musketeers" pipping 'Lastminute.com' at the post to be crowned the winners.
A festival atmosphere was generated with music, delicious food from The Teign Canteen, a bar with Tolchards providing the wine and Two Beach Brewing Co. the beer and a raffle all helping to add to the final total raised of over £500 meaning Year 6 have reached and surpassed their original target of in the region of £7000, which is an amazing achievement.
One of the enterprise teams also used this opportunity to launch the tea towels which they have designed and made under the guidance of Tim Starkey. These are now on sale for £5 each and have received wide sponsorship from the village.
