We were asked to present our thanks to the Teign Estuary partnership for their kind contribution of £500 to last year's sailing fund at their annual forum held at The Pavilions, Teignmouth on Monday 27th February, 2017.
After listening to speeches from Teignbridge District Council, Network Rail, Devon County Council and South West Coast Path, we were asked to speak briefly to explain what the grant of £500 had meant to us. Two pupils from last year joined Miss Gordge to explain the impact of learning a new skill, using the local facilities of the river. The feedback following the girls' speeches was fantastic - full of praise for their confidence and clarity as well as their humour - many people came up to Miss Gordge after the event to say that, for them, this had been the highlight of the evening.
We are hoping to build on the success of the last two years in which all Year Six pupils have learned to sail, by extending this into an experience aboard a Tall Ship this summer. Fundraising is going well with £2000 already collected in...but another £4,700 still to raise. Year Six are working hard to raise that money with T.Shirt printing, fun days, film nights, hot cross bun sales among many other highly enterprising ideas to turn the fiver, loaned to them by FOSS into funds for their great adventure.
Congratulations to Izabella and Tess for such eloquent and engaging speeches which had the audience enraptured.
