Year six have been doing some research of the trees in the botanical gardens to help Teignbridge District Council create a tree trail, information leaflets and boards for the gardens.
All the trees were numbered and labelled with both their colloquial names and their scientific names. The pupils worked hard to observe the fruits and leaf structures. In addition, they measured the height of the trees, the circumference of the trunk ( which they used to date the tree) and found out about the root structures being twice the height of the tree.
Back in school. They will pool their information and make a start on the booklets.
We are very excited to be continuing our relationship with the council through our work in the gardens.
