Welcome to Year 2
Class Teacher: Miss R Smallshaw
Welcome back to the Spring term in Year 2 where the children are continually WOWing me with their incredible learning attitude and their conscious efforts to always show the school values. We have got an exciting yet busy term ahead but we have already loved getting stuck in!
This terms learning journey is an exciting and creative one where the children will answer the question ‘How can I become an expert in collage to showcase our village?’
Of course, this lends itself primarily to the art curriculum whereby the children will begin to learn key art skills such as tone, colour, line and perspective. This will be in the context of the different places in our village, leading up to them choosing their favourite place in Shaldon to complete their very own collage.
Within this also, will be the opportunity for the children to create a class mosaic of the classes favourite place in Shaldon, where each child will work towards this goal. These will then be proudly showcased at the front of our school.
Linking closely to this element of the journey is our literacy sequence. A key text that we are using currently is a beautiful book called ‘Where my wellies take me...’ The children have already been immersed in this text by going on their very own welly walk, leading to them writing a recount of their journey. We will then move onto more descriptive and informative pieces about different places in Shaldon. To become true artists, we are trialling displaying our learning in a reflective journal. Please come in to see these at any point if you wish!
With the lead up to SATs coming round fast, the children will be working on key concepts not yet covered, starting with time and then moving onto measure. The children are also continually practicing their arithmetic methods.
Please ensure that children are reading at least 3 times a week and completing at least 1 quiz a week if on Accelerated Reader. In class, we are really working hard to try and achieve children increasing their fluency and in turn, making simple inferences based on a text they are reading.
