Welcome to Year 2
Class Teacher: Miss R Smallshaw
Welcome to Class 2! I am so excited for the next year with the wonderfully enthusiastic learners that have brought a smile to the classroom every day already! Please find below an outline of this next term. Despite it being a step up from year 1, the children will still have opportunity for image based learning with lots of exploratative and creative activities.
Something which is new for the children in year 2 is the concept of a learning journey. This is where both Literacy (on the most part) and topic work are tied in together to create a journey based on a key question. The question for this half term is 'Can I celebrate a special event in the past?'. The learning based around this question will of course involve lots of work on understanding a celebration and identifying different reasons for a celebration. This will then help us focus onto our main outcome which is holding a street party with Y1 and Reception to celebrate an event which happened in the past. This will involve the children creating past time food as well as decorations. The recipes for their creations will then be displayed in a whole school exhibition at the church. The Literacy tied into this will be based around the book Alfie Lends a Hand where the children will write a recount of their favourite birthday party. We will then of course learn all about recipe writing.
In maths, we will be kick starting with the absolute fundamentals of mathematics, place value. The children will learn how to partition 2 digit numbers and will learning how to compare and order these also.
As always, my door is always open for anything concerns or worries you might have, or even comments of positive learning that has been happening at home too! But can I please remind you that the children should be outside until the bell goes at 8.50am.
P.E will be on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday as normal so P.E kits will need to be in on those days.
