Welcome to Year 4
Class Teacher: Miss N Livermore
Welcome to Class 4! I am so excited to be starting my first term at Shaldon Primary and seeing what the year brings.
This term will see Year 4 journey back in time to the time of war – World War 1 - before looking at how women became the unsung heroes of the time and how they affect us today. Our learning journey question is: 'What qualities do I need to be a hero or heroine?’. To achieve this goal, the children have decided they need to broaden their knowledge of what a hero is, before working on their writing, drawing and designing skills to make their own piece. We have already been to the war memorial in Shaldon to begin to think about the impact they war may have had on our local environment and how those brave people shaped our current world. In the future, we shall be going to Bygones to immerse ourselves in the era of World War 1 and Teignmouth Museum for their World War 1 exhibition. We will be sticking with a war theme in our writing, non-chronological reports about World War 1, biographies of heroic women and looking at some world war fiction. In maths, we will be working on place value of 4-digit numbers, ordering and comparing, roman numerals and negative numbers. As well as this, we shall be looking at our basic calculation of addition and subtraction.
P.E will be on a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday so please ensure children have their kit in those days. Homework will be set on a Friday and expected in on a Wednesday.
