Welcome to Reception Class
Class Teacher: Mrs Megan Geeves
We encourage children to read at home as much as possible and reading books will be changed on a regular basis. A reading diary will accompany this if you would like to write any comments on how you feel your child is progressing. Books will be changed on a Tuesday and Thursday. We ask the children to put their books and reading records in the correct colour tray on the side in the classroom. We feel that reading is the most important part of the child’s learning at home, so this will be the focus of their home learning in Reception. In addition to reading, a small task will be set (usually phonics). This will be handed out on a Tuesday to be given in on the following Monday.
Reception will have PE on a Tuesday with our specialist PE teacher Miss Young. Please make sure your child’s PE bag is in school. It is important that all items in their bags are labelled to ensure things don’t go missing.
Learning in Autumn term
For the first couple of weeks, Reception will be settling into school and starting to get used to the school routines. We have got an exciting term ahead of us with our learning journey being all about exploring. Our topic title is ‘Why do people chose to explore?’.
We are going to explore the land of dinosaurs. We are going to dig for fossils and find out about all the different dinosaurs. We are going to be looking at the land when dinosaurs existed and how the land has changed over time.
Please remember that we have an ‘open door’ policy and are always available to speak with you first thing in the morning and at the end of the day.
