Welcome to Reception Class
Class Teacher: Mrs Megan Geeves
We encourage children to read at home as much as possible and reading books will be changed on a regular basis. A reading diary will accompany this if you would like to write any comments on how you feel your child is progressing. Books will be changed on a Tuesday and Thursday. We ask the children to put their books and reading records in the correct colour tray on the side in the classroom. We feel that reading is the most important part of the child’s learning at home, so this will be the focus of their home learning in Reception. In addition to reading, a small task will be set (usually phonics). This will be handed out on a Tuesday to be given in on the following Monday.
Reception will have PE on a Tuesday with our specialist PE teacher Miss Young. Please make sure your child’s PE bag is in school. It is important that all items in their bags are labelled to ensure things don’t go missing.
Learning in Spring term
This half term, Reception are going to be studying science in order to answer the question 'How could our local area become a BlueZone?' We are going to learn about what it means to have a balanced diet. We are going to look at the impact of exercise on our bodies.
We are going to learn from professionals and scientists throughout the half term who will help us to understand the responsible choices that we have to make as we grow older. As a class, we are going to learn about the importance of growing your own food such as vegetables and herbs.
Through the gateway of well-being, we will become responsible, well-informed scientists.
Please remember that we have an ‘open door’ policy and are always available to speak with you first thing in the morning and at the end of the day.
