Our school lunches are freshly prepared by Devon Norse each day at Bishopsteington School using local ingredients where possible, including bread rolls from Shaldon Bakery. The three weekly rotating menu includes a main, vegetarian, a sandwich option and a variety of jacket potatoes. The current menu can be downloaded from the link below.

The ordering system is flexible to fit in with your daily requirements - lunch can be ordered every day or on just one or two days a week, or not at all - the choice is yours.

Free School Meals

All children in reception, year 1 and year 2 at state schools in England automatically get free school meals. However, parents and guardians are encouraged to apply for free school meals when they enrol their child in school, as this can help their child’s school to attract additional ‘pupil premium‘ funding to support learning.

From year 3 onwards, children whose parents are in receipt of the following are entitled to free school meals:

  • Income Support

  • income-based Jobseekers Allowance

  • income-related Employment and Support Allowance

  • support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

  • the guaranteed element of State Pension Credit

  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

  • Universal Credit.

Children who receive any of the above benefits in their own right (i.e. they get benefits payments directly, instead of through a parent or guardian) can also get free school meals.

How to apply

School lunches cost £2.60 per day. For years 3, 4, 5 and 6, payment will need to be made at the time of booking on ParentPay. For children in Reception, 1 and 2, there will be no payment required as meals are provided free of charge for these years.

Making your selection via ParentPay will provide you with the flexibility to book a term in advance and to make any changes to your menu choices as required.

Cancelling lunches

Please cancel your lunches before 9am if your child is not attending school for any reason, otherwise your Parent Pay account will be debited. If you would like further information about our school lunches please speak to Sally Ellison in the school office (mornings only, or all day Wednesday) or email
